BAAM STAFF

Mark Sanders (Senior Ecologist)

Mark Sanders is an enthusiastic ecologist with over 12 years of field experience and first hand experience with more than 1200 of Australias terretrial vertebrate speceis. He has conducted many environmental studies throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. As a result of his personal enthusiasm for natural history, Mark is adept at identifying all terrestrial vertebrates and selected invertebrates using all standard trapping, search and call identification techniques. Mark has designed and implemented surveys and monitoring/research programs in many different vegetation or habitat types within eastern Australia ranging from native grasslands to dry and wet sclerophyll habitats, coastal swamps, brigalow, rainforests, savannah woodland and many more.

Mark’s field expertise is complemented by a strong background in technical writing, and sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Access. He also has strong ties the Queensland Museum and the Environmental Protection Agency (QPWS) as well as community organisations.

Prior to joining BAAM, Mark was the flora and fauna manager for an environmental consultancy targeting the mining industry. Consequently, he has designed and undertaken surveys and monitoring/research programs for mining clients (both metalliferous and coal) throughout Queensland. All surveys under Marks supervision were conducted without incident or injury, despite often facing significant challenges in remote locations. This close involvement with working mines and pre-mining studies (eg EIS and EMOS) have resulted in a strong understanding of mining principles, techniques and the mining culture.

Mark has published several scientific papers on a number of fauna taxa in a variety of periodicals and presented or prepared conference proceedings.
